Good Morning Everyone!
I hope you will all consider signing my petition to the FDA regarding Depo-Provera.
Mainly, it asks the government to reinvestigate its safety, risks, and side-effects. When writing this I also tried to touch briefly on several important facts:
-The medical community is not aware of (or ignores!) our side-effects and passes them off as a result of something else. (For example, those who gained much more weight than the brochure says are told they're just eating too much.).
-The brochure states the 'serious risks' and states there are slim chances of these occurrences. I believe there are LARGE numbers of us that have been victims of these 'serious risks'.
-The very fact that each woman has a DIFFERENT result from Depo is disturbing in itself!! A drug that is 'safe' should deliver nearly the SAME results in most cases.
My personal experience with one shot of Depo was horrible enough for me to ask the government for a reinvestigation. It required three different physicians, two emergency room visits, at least ten office visits and prescriptions and over three months to diagnose my problem. I'm 34 years old and in menopause due to the hormonal effects of Depo-Provera. I was finally lucky enough to locate a doctor who realized my symptoms and problems were real, and am now on hormone replacements.
I hope you, your partners, and your friends will join me in asking the FDA to reappraise this drug. My petition can be found at the following web address:

Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for posting your petition link.
As a suggestions you may want to research the criteria for submitting petition signatures that have been obtained electronically. I believe there are regulations with regard to petition submissions and their validity when they are gathered electronically as opposed to hard copy.
( authenticity issues if I'm not mistaken)
Just a suggestion, I'd hate to see all of your efforts be in vain because of some loophole.
PS.
There are "scripts" available with the required data fields. _________________ In its own way, pain paves the way for a graceful departure ( Ecclesiastes 12:1-14). |

If they are Emma let me join in, I too am in the UK. I complained to the department of health, who did not want to know and told me that I should have been informed about all of the side effects before I took the shot and basically said take your doctor to court! I have since found out that doctors in the UK have incentives to use the shot, so they get a golf umbrella we get our bodies in a mess! If you find out anything about petitions in the UK please let me know.

I haven't seen one for the UK ladies,
Get that ball rolling
www.petitiononline.com
Post it when it's done, we'll mass e-mail it to the board memebers, let the signing begin
Again you may want to verify if they recognize the online petition in the UK.
There are definately some legitimacy issues with them as they do not request specific details usually required for a valid petition. As you will note people can sign them more than once, no checks and balances.
Having said that if you determine what data is required to determine them valid we may be able to do it via a forum from this site with the required fields and ip logs
Let me know if you need anything from me, we actually need a Canadian one seperate to the US one as well but, I'm just a bit too busy, I did send out a message looking for legal moderators, I'll put some further efforts in to finding some people _________________ In its own way, pain paves the way for a graceful departure ( Ecclesiastes 12:1-14). |

i would love to sign the petition....i am so thankful that i found this web site.....another thing that i was thinking along with this is letting more people aware of what is going on.....i have been going to planned parenthood since i was 14 (the regulate my period) and when i called them up to tell them what was going on they told me it sounded like i was pregnant, the clinician (the person who gives me my shot and is licensed to do so) told me she never heard of all of this stuff that was going on...now she may not know (yeah right) but with some hope that there are good people in this world maybe she really doesnt know....i dont live in a huge city, so maybe she doesnt....maybe there is a way that we can spread the word of this web site and the personal stories that we have so people that are actually handing these shots out so freely, In my opinion they should have in the pamphlet that if you want the risk the next two or more years after the shot of being naseau, headache, overeating, feeling sick, moody, irregular bleeding, etc....after the shot then this is good method for you....obviously that is not anything like the pamphlet we all read....but if the big dogs arent going to listen then maybe we need to start at the little ones and then work our way up....i am sure that planned parenthood is the number one consumer of the depo....if they dont use it...then we won....let me know if you need help researching or anything...... jborres@enter.net |

I've been on depo for 9+ years now. The only side effect I liked was NO periods. I have decided to go off of it now to see if I can get my health back.
I am an adventure racer. This means I do cross training year round. But due to the depo and the resulting slow down in my metabolism, I am 45 lbs. overweight. My children are both pre depo so I'm not worried about having more kids. I haven't worn my wedding ring in nine years because my fingers have been too swollen. I thought it was all due to my last pregnancy and that it had totally screwed up my system. Family members are now theorizing that my problem is the depo so I'm getting off of it this month. Is there anyone else out there who has any history of getting their body back after depo? |

I received my first Depo injection on December 7, 2000 and I had my last one on August 7, 2001, today is September 5, 2002 and I still have had no period. I am very concerned about many side effects I had while on the shot. I gained 50 lbs, my blood pressure sky rocketted, my mood swings spun like a revolving door. I wasn't aware that any of that could happen. But what concerns me the most is that, what kinds of long term effects could not having a period for such a long time have on a body? We have one for a reason and no one know exactly how the body works, no one could know every detail. And when I asked the first Dr. I went to after receiving the injection and finding the abscense of a period what the effects were the nurse just smiled and said she wasn't sure but she was sure there were none. I asked the Dr. last time I went when I could expect a period that I was concerned that I did not have one and she told me 6-9 months, but she didn't say 6-9 months from when! I still have had no visits from Mother Nature, not that I missed her, but I am getting very concerned. I signed the petition I was number 217, I dont' know that the FDA should pull the drug, it's not for me to decide, but I do think that they should investigate it a little more before they start giving it to the public.

I just signed the petition (#314)...when will it go to the FDA??
I just found this site on depo...how scary is it that there's actually a site dedicated to women who's lives have been forever changed by something as 'normal' as birth control???? this is so sad!
I have mixed emotions about this site: I'm glad to have found some support for what my husband and I are going thru, but it's pretty disconcerting to know that depo's messed up so many lives! |
