| After being on the pill for six years, my period became suddenly irregular, bleeding a week and then stopping for a few days. The gynie put me on depo, and things got considerably worse for at least 3 months. Then, suddenly, relief... no period at all for the following year. I decided to let my body try and be natural for the first time, and stopped the depo injections almost six months ago. I've been bleeding heavily everyday since. Six months with no relief?? Is there an end in sight? My relationship with my fiance is beginning to suffer, obviously, among many other things as a result of Aunt Flo. I know I'm not the only person with this problem, but I haven't met anyone in person who's actually gone through this. |

I completely understand and can relate to your personal horror story. My period is like a terrible disease that I now have and cant get rid of! Help! I am literally weak from all the bleeding and not sure where to turn. I went to my doctor a couple weeks back and she put me back on my normal low dosage birth control pills thinking that this will put an end or stop the bleeding....does anyone else have this experience? |

Hello,
I have had a similar experience to yours. Although I have only had one depo injection, I was constantly bleeding for most of the three-month stretch. I had gained some weight (enough for me to notice) and the seemingly endless period was effecting my daily life, not to mention my sex life. I was due for the second shot 21 Sept, but needless to say, I didn't get it! When I went to my GP two weeks ago, he put me on Alesse; low-dose birth control, to try to regulate. It didn't work and made me feel like I was a balloon. I took myself off of it after 8 days and a week to the day of getting off of the pill...I stopped bleeding. So far, so good with no spotting or anything. I'm glad that I only had the one shot and haven't gone through the horror some women on this board have! I thought I had it bad...but nothing compared to some of the personal accounts I've read.
I think it fair to mention that I am overweight and was told that might have some to do with the reaction I got. I don't really put as much creedence into that as the docs might like me to. I have never had trouble with my cycle until now and I have always been a big girl (to greater or lesser extents). One thing I did find interesting was the doc told me that women should get the shot at least 2 days into the menstrual cycle, while you're bleeding. I guess this has to do with the hormone levels at that particular time. I got mine 4 days after I was finished with my period. It's a guessing game how much of a role that played in my personal experience.
It is a comfort to me that I am not the only one with the unpleasant side effects of this awful drug. Effective birth control....You're damn right it is!! When you're bleeding constantly!
Peace to you,
Tiffani |
