I am 40 years old and have been on depo for 5 years. In those five year I've had no sex drive (thank God sex isn't top priority with my husband)I am extremely fatigued, muscle and joint pain, vertigo, double vision, and a 30lb weight gain. Until recently I thought I may have MS. I went to one of the top endocrinologist in the country who is also a fertility specialist, and he immediately told me the State and County give Depo to "Sex Offenders" because it gets rid of their libido. I said you have to be kidding me. I am from Atlanta GA and he said they had been giving Depo to them for at least 7 years. He reccommended that I go off Depo and my husband will have a visectomy. I have went to a MS specialist (my Dad has progressive MS) and my MRI came back normal so they are now doing blood work for lupus and any thyroid condition. I have a feeling though when The Depo wears off I will begin to feel better. Even though I am scared at what my body is going to do, especially after not having a period for 5 years. But I will have my sex drive back, and feel like a woman again, maybe I'll finally be able to keep my weight off and have my energy back.

I've been on the depo shot for about 4 years. I had no sex drive whatsoever. Which made me feel inadequate and insecure. I kept thinking my boyfriend was cheating on me. Which he was'nt and nearly destroyed our relationship which is still rocky. My friend told me that I should go online and research the depo shot. Thank God I did!! I just started using the patch and already feel better. The sex offenders thing though bothers me. They should tell everybody using the depo shot about that.

the more I find out about depo provera the sick I feel.

I think that before you have the injection the nurse or doctor should have to tell you all the side affects and information about it and not pawn you off with 'the only thing that will happen is you periods will stop'

its disgusting that we put our lives in these peoples hands.

i can honestly say i'll never trust my doctor again

I too found out through online research that they give Depo to sex offenders. I was shocked beyond belief. How can the drug manufacturer have any ethics knowing they are giving this drug to millions of women and these women have no idea how horrible it is? I no longer trust my doctor either, because the only thing he said to me was "you might gain a few pounds but if you diet & exercise you'll be fine." I hate the fact that I had to go online to find out the information that I feel the doctor should have told me in the first place!
